A large manufacturing company located in Illinois, needed a generator system for back-up power. As the IEA team worked closely with the company to evaluate its needs, the project resulted in a 4.6 megawatt generator system that is able to handle the whole electrical load for the company. |

Initially, it was determined to be more economical for the company to use the generator station for power during the weekday peak hours from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. to shave the “peak” demand charge. The system was designed to transition back to their regular utility during the night hours to take advantage of lower rates. |

The generator system not only saved money during peak hours, but also had the added reliability of a back-up system if the power should go out at any time. This secondary benefit is important to companies that rely on just-in-time manufacturing to build and sell their products. A power outage could shut down operations and down-time means dollars lost. |
