A Large Illinois Manufacturing Company

A large manufacturing company located in Illinois, needed a generator system for back-up power.

As the IEA team worked closely with the company to evaluate its needs, the project resulted in a 4.6 megawatt generator system that is able to handle the whole electrical load for the company.

Illinois Generation System

Initially, it was determined to be more economical for the company to use the generator station for power during the weekday peak hours from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. to shave the “peak” demand charge. The system was designed to transition back to their regular utility during the night hours to take advantage of lower rates.

“IEA really made this project come together.”

The generator system not only saved money during peak hours, but also had the added reliability of a back-up system if the power should go out at any time. This secondary benefit is important to companies that rely on just-in-time manufacturing to build and sell their products. A power outage could shut down operations and down-time means dollars lost.

“IEA really made this project come together in a way that worked for our benefit. It was a team effort that was very successful for all involved”. - Plant Maintenance Superintendent.
